Performance Data

Residential Protective Action Response (PAR) Performance Data

Protective Action Response (PAR) is the verbal and physical intervention program utilized by direct care staff.  It is the intent of the Department that the least restrictive means of intervention be used based on the individual needs of each youth.  DJJ provides and requires extensive training in safe PAR techniques for staff, including the staff of contracted providers.  Properly using these techniques protects the safety of staff and youth.  The Office of Residential Services and its contracted providers strive for a restraint-free, therapeutic environment in all residential commitment programs.
The PAR rates are calculated based on the available beds days and PAR incidents in residential programs.  The data illustrated here is a visual reference of each residential commitment program’s performance in maintaining a restraint-free environment for youth and staff.  Please click on the tab and links provided below to see the data compiled for the reported portion of the fiscal year.

Filled Bed Days

Filled Bed Days are "resident days."  Each resident day is one day of service in a residential commitment program for one youth.  A day of service is based on the JJIS program information that shows a youth's "in" date and "out" date.

For example, if a youth is in a program for the entire month of December, that youth is counted as being served for 31 resident days.  If a youth is only served for two weeks during a month (e.g., due to a mid-month release or admission), then that youth is counted as being served for 14 resident days.

Therefore, if a program serves two youths for the entire month of December, those two youths are counted as “generating” 62 resident days.
