The Polk Halfway House serves a 24 males, ages 14 to 18, in a non-secure residential commitment program.  The program focuses on assessing and identifying youth with mental health and substance abuse issues. Specialized mental health services are provided to youth with moderate-to-serious mental or emotional disturbances whose level of impairment and maladaptive behavior make them unsuitable for a non-specialized program but are not at the level of intensive mental health services.

Polk Halfway House is committed to the balanced approach of restorative justice that emphasizes accountability, competency development, and public safety. The youth receive clinical and case management services, individual, family and group therapeutic interventions, treatment team development, behavior management, human growth and development, life skills, physical skills, and specialized community re-entry preparedness.

The anticipated average length of stay depends on the youth's pace of success in completing the individualized treatment plan and goals. Clothing and uniforms are provided by the program.

The Polk Halfway House is a Type 1 program offering English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and one elective course.

Education services are provided by the Polk County School District.
