Martin Girls Academy is a 30-bed, high- and maximum-risk program for female juvenile offenders between the ages of 13 and 18. Youth in the program receive individual, group, and family therapy, as well as testing and psychiatric evaluation services.

The program addresses youth trauma utilizing an evidence-based model known as TARGET. The TARGET philosophy outlines a strengths-based model that explains Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in terms of body survival/alarm system, while teaching practical skills to enable youth to gain control of PTSD symptoms. The goal of the program is to provide a nurturing culture that validates the unique quality of each female.

The program provides a licensed mental health professional seven (7) days a week, and psychiatrist and psychologist professionals are on-site weekly. Admission criteria requires a DSM-IV-TR Axis I or II mental disorder that demonstrates serious to severe systems of mental disorder and impairment in social, emotional and adaptive functioning or a GAF or CGAF below 50. The youth may have a co-occurring, diagnosed substance–related disorder.

Youth in active need of crisis stabilization, acute inpatient or hospital level care cannot be admitted to the program until after stabilization has occurred. The anticipated average length of stay for an adjudicated high-risk youth depends on the youth's pace of success in completing the individualized treatment plan and goals.  For an adjudicated maximum-risk youth, the anticipated, average length of stay is between 18 and 36 months.

Martin Girls Academy is a Type 2 program offering English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Reading.

Career and technical opportunities include Business Education courses. Education services are provided through a contract between the program and the Martin County School District.
