The Alachua Academy provides a non-secure residential commitment program for females, ages 12 to 18.  Youths served are those adjudicated to a non-secure placement who have been assessed as needing Substance Abuse Treatment Overlay Services (SAOS).

The program uses evidence-based practices to provide care, treatment and supervision.  Youths receive daily psychotherapeutic services, including individual, family and group counseling, cognitive skills training, and relapse prevention training by qualified mental health and substance abuse professionals under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.

The length of stay depends on the youth's assessed risk to reoffend and the progress the youth makes in reducing criminogenic needs and risk factors, completing her individualized treatment plan, and increasing the protective factors in her life.

The anticipated average length of stay depends on the youth's pace of success in completing the individualized treatment plan and goals.

The Alachua Academy is a Type 2 program offering English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and one elective course. The elective course is typically used to provide additional reading assistance to needy students or vocational training.

Education and vocational services are provided through a cooperative agreement with the Alachua County School District and include GED® preparation.

Value-added programs include "Finding Your Style," the Toastmasters Speaking Program, and vocational programming that includes three core tracks:  culinary arts, agricultural and gardening vocations, and Habitat for Humanity.
