The Spring Lake Youth Academy is a residential facility for males, ages 15 to 18, who are at a low-risk to public safety and who have mental health disorders and related maladaptive behaviors. The philosophy of treatment encompasses program goals based upon the youth’s ability to demonstrate an understanding of and identify alternatives to delinquent patterns of thinking. Treatment also helps the youth understand the impact of his crime on victims and the community while helping the youth identify a plan for success.
The program provides mental health and behavioral health services in group settings and through individual counseling. In addition, youth receive clinical and case management services, individual, family and group therapeutic interventions, treatment team development, behavior management, human growth and development, life skills, and specialized community re-entry preparedness.
Spring Lake Youth Academy is committed to the balanced approach of restorative justice that emphasizes accountability, competency development, and public safety. Clothing and uniforms are provided by the program. The anticipated average length of stay is between 60 and 90 days.
Spring Lake Youth Academy (school number 140191) is a Type 1 program offering English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reading. Career and technical opportunities include a Water Resource Management course that is integrated with Environmental Science.
Education services are provided by G4S Youth Services through a contract with the DeSoto County School District.
