The Space Coast Marine Institute (SCMI) is a moderate-risk non-secure program for male youth that is designed as a therapeutic community. The program provides a structured residential environment for committed youth offering opportunities for personal growth, social development and responsible behavior. The program activities include:  marine science activities; individual, group and family counseling; mental health overlay services; community service projects; drug education and counseling; and structured recreational and leisure activities. This program uses a unique blend of educational and marine science motivational courses as part of the treatment approach. The program is designed to build self-esteem and teach youth to work with others. Youth with arson charges, a chronic history of aggressive behavior, or offenders on psychotropic medication are considered inappropriate for commitment to this program. All youths must be willing to participate in the athletic programming and all aspects of the program focus on three basic components: work ethic, education and marine skills. The program provide clothing. The average length of stay is 6 to 9 months.

Space Coast Marine Institute (school number 51027) is a Type 2 program offering English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and one elective course. The elective course is typically used to provide additional reading assistance to needy students or vocational training.

Education and vocational services are provided through the Brevard County School District. Vocational opportunities include: Florida Ready to Work and Safe Serve.
