Secretary's Message

December 28, 2012

Wansley Walters

Dear DJJ team members:

I hope you had a restful, joyous holiday with family and friends. Please allow me to share this brief weekly message with you.

ROADMAP UPDATE: Last week, I traveled to South Florida for the final Roadmap to System Excellence meetings of this year. I met with newspaper editorial boards, stakeholders and members of the public in Palm Beach County (Dec. 17-18), Broward County (Dec. 19) and Miami-Dade County (Dec. 20). This brings to eight the number of communities with which we have met to discuss the Roadmap since our launch in Tallahassee on Nov. 15. I was deeply gratified to meet and hear from so many people who take an active interest in juvenile justice and who want DJJ to succeed. On Dec. 24, the Tampa Bay Times published an editorial supporting the Roadmap and the reforms we are making at DJJ, and on Dec. 26 the Palm Beach Post published a guest column expressing similar support. We are planning Roadmap meetings for early 2013 in other communities we haven’t traveled to yet so please stay tuned for more details or check the Roadmap to System Excellence webpage for updates.

Scenes from the Roadmap Town Hall meeting in Miami on Dec. 20. Hundreds of people have turned out at these meetings to learn about the Roadmap.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES: Thank you for submitting your news and photos about holiday-related activities for publication in this letter and on the DJJ Facebook page. In fact, so many submissions were received that they will be published in my weekly letter on Friday, Jan. 4.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Finally, I want to thank each and every one of your for the hard work, dedication and professionalism on behalf of the young people in our care this past year. Please accept my best wishes for a peaceful and happy 2013.

Sincerely,

Wansley Walters

Secretary
