Tallahassee, Fla. -- Did you know that juvenile delinquency in Florida has been declining for the past several years? Or that "Scared Straight" programs aimed at troubled youth aren't effective?

These and other questions are answered in a series of research-based articles on the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) website. Nine common myths about the juvenile justice system are carefully and clearly countered by facts and data supported by graphs, charts and statistics.

"Using our own statistics and data as well as academic research from respected sources, we are pleased to offer this tool to help the public and the news media better understand the juvenile justice system," said DJJ Secretary Wansley Walters. "Simply put, a lot of what many people think is true about the system is not supported by the facts."
