Tallahassee -- Emphasizing the success that the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), its partners and providers have in turning around the lives of Florida's at-risk and troubled children, Gov. Rick Scott and Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll joined DJJ Secretary Wansley Walters today at the Capitol to celebrate DJJ Youth Success Day.

"I thank Secretary Walters for sharing my vision to make Florida's juvenile justice system the best in the nation," said Gov. Scott.

"Our collaborative relationship with community partners to support the success of our youth is the key to improving our juvenile justice system," said Secretary Walters. "As we work to keep Florida safe, we must remember our at-risk and troubled youth are still kids.”

Among the participants at the event was the 2011 DJJ Youth Success Ambassador, Michael Long. Long currently attends the New College of Florida, where he serves as president of the student alliance.

DJJ joins Children's Week again this year to celebrate the success of juvenile justice-involved youth as they work to build a brighter future, and the partnerships that make youth achievement possible. Children's Week brings together concerned citizens, stakeholders and service agencies from across Florida to the Capitol to share valuable information concerning children's issues. DJJ facilities and contracted providers throughout the state this week are holding local events to celebrate the success of children within their communities.
