PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Volusia Halfway House is a non-secure treatment program for boys ages 15-18 who are classified as moderate risk. Located in a neighborhood setting and operated by the not-for-profit Henry and Rilla White Youth Foundation, this program uses evidenced-based curriculum and treatment, including Thinking for Change, Motivational Interviewing and Aggression Replacement Therapy. The education program is integrated with the treatment philosophy and offers a high school schedule and credits, GED® attainment and a Culinary Arts vocational program. Individual and group mental health and substance abuse counseling are available and basic medical services are provided onsite. Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) will be available for boys from surrounding counties who have a history of substance abuse and whose parents agree to participate. Life Skills training will occur both in the classroom and in evening treatment groups and boys will have opportunities to engage with the community consistent with Restorative Justice Principles. The average length of stay for each youth is 6-9 months.
