PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Gulf Coast Youth Academy is a low- and moderate-risk
program located in Ft. Walton Beach. Behavioral Health
Overlay Services (BHOS) are provided for up to 104 youth,
which includes outpatient level mental health and substance
abuse counseling.
The average length of stay for low-risk
youth is 4 to 6 months and the average length of stay for a
moderate-risk male is 6 to 9 months.
Educational services are provided by Okaloosa County School
District. A masonry vocational program is available and the
program is a certified GED testing center. Youth have the
option of earning a GED and/or high school diploma. The
program has an indoor gymnasium, an outdoor basketball
court, a paved jogging track, a swimming pool, and a low
R.O.P.E.S. course. A fiber optic vibration sensor
surrounds Gulf Coast Youth Academy. Forty-eight recorded
security cameras monitor the program. The program provides
uniforms. Gulf Coast Youth Academy cannot accept sex
offenders, as youth are housed 4 per room.
