PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Thompson Academy is a Moderate Risk
residential program for youth who are committed to the
Department of Juvenile Justice after being assessed and
classified as a moderate-risk to public safety. Thompson
Academy has a maximum capacity of 154 male youth. The YSI
program utilizes a Community Therapeutic Model to serve the
youth ranging in age from 13 to 18 years. The YSI program
model incorporates the Restorative Justice Philosophies,
principles and practices. Of the total 154 beds, all beds
are designated for Behavioral Health Overlay Services (BHOS)
by the Department with 68 beds designated specifically
for Substance Abuse Treatment. The program has a fulltime
medical department, and a comprehensive on-site educational
program that is provided by Broward County School Board
professionals. The mission at Thompson Academy is to protect
the public by preparing troubled youth for the future, to
